It is possible now to create a cool house without using any Air Conditioner. It is more friendly with electricity and environment. For a tropical climate in Indonesia, which is humid and warm, Air Conditioning is nearly a must.
But with the grow of environmental issues, such as global warming, the use of Air Conditioner is not recommended. For it is not economical in electricity.
Here are some tips for creating a cool house without using any AC:
1. Opening and ventilation maximizing.
To create a healthy, comfort, and cool house a good air circulation is an absolute requirement which can be made of maximizing opening and ventilation so that the flow of air in and out is balanced.
2. Minimizing daylight.
In the afternoon, the sun is shining very fierce, and we should try not to let many incoming ray in the house. Cause it makes the room temperature increase. To prevent it, we can apply window shade which helps reducing incoming ray.
3. Ceiling height is high enough from the floor level.
Ideal height ceiling is 2,75 – 4 m. If your ceiling is high enough from the floor level it will give enough room for air circulation.
4. Heat reflector roof material using.
Heat can be raised not only by the window, it also can be raise from the roof. Choose only heat reflector material such as Ceramic Tile Roof.
5.Create a reflecting pool inside the house.
Pool and garden inside the house helps reducing temperature. But if you don't want the air inside the house to be humid, make some opening on the roof to provide enough sunlight to the house.
