How to Calculate Your Lighting Power

According to the SNI, the maximum lighting power for space office / industrial is 15 watt/m2. For lighting power

at home, its value should not exceed 10 watt/m2. Calculation of power influenced several factors,

Function room (to determine the bright lights) .Type of lamp (light affect the quantity of emitted)

The number of point lights (so that uniform light distribution and as needed)

Installed electrical power must not exceed the number maximum specified for each space.

Example calculation:

Vast dining room: 5 m X 4 m = 20 m2

Lamp Power: 3 pieces (point lights) x 15 watts = 45 watt/m2

Power: Room Size

2:25 watt/m2 = 45/20 ==>> qualify (less than 10

watt/m2)

Try to apply this calculation to each room in the house

.. if you subtract the amount of excess lighting point or

use of energy-saving lamps

The house is not just a place to stay, but it is a home, not just a place for a family to live happily but it is also an investment. But to get a house that suits us is not a simple thing, a lot to be considered :

Location ; when u choose a house, accessibility, free from flooding and away from criminality.

Concept and Environment; for a housing colony, choose only the housing with the effective and clear concept. And choose only the housing that provide public facility.

Secure and comfortability ; choose the housing with 24 hour security facility; make sure that you are comfort with surrounding environment.

Design; choose the house with a good design.

5 Tips without AC

It is possible now to create a cool house without using any Air Conditioner. It is more friendly with electricity and environment. For a tropical climate in Indonesia, which is humid and warm, Air Conditioning is nearly a must.

But with the grow of environmental issues, such as global warming, the use of Air Conditioner is not recommended. For it is not economical in electricity.

Here are some tips for creating a cool house without using any AC:

1. Opening and ventilation maximizing.

To create a healthy, comfort, and cool house a good air circulation is an absolute requirement which can be made of maximizing opening and ventilation so that the flow of air in and out is balanced.

2. Minimizing daylight.

In the afternoon, the sun is shining very fierce, and we should try not to let many incoming ray in the house. Cause it makes the room temperature increase. To prevent it, we can apply window shade which helps reducing incoming ray.

3. Ceiling height is high enough from the floor level.

Ideal height ceiling is 2,75 – 4 m. If your ceiling is high enough from the floor level it will give enough room for air circulation.

4. Heat reflector roof material using.

Heat can be raised not only by the window, it also can be raise from the roof. Choose only heat reflector material such as Ceramic Tile Roof.

5.Create a reflecting pool inside the house.

Pool and garden inside the house helps reducing temperature. But if you don't want the air inside the house to be humid, make some opening on the roof to provide enough sunlight to the house.

Chapter Six : Nojorono Tobacco

In November 2006, i've got accepted to work in a cigarette company with position of Project Architect.

It is one the big five cigarette company in this country. Its product including Clasmild, Minak Djinggo, Niki Super, Niko Intl, Matra, Aroma, and Marathon. Its HO is in Kudus, Central Java. 

With its expansion throughout Indonesia, maybe it is time for this company in need for people with background in construction and design. I am to provide design for new offices, and supervising new designs. 

Chapter Five : Jepara

In 2005-2006, I have got a job as an architectural inspector for a project. This time i have to be posted in Jepara, Central Java. The city of Ibu Kita Kartini. It was a housing project for PLTU Tanjung Jati B operators. 

Located near Bandengan beach,  the housing consists of 15o type 54 houses, 17 type 90 houses, 9 type 120 houses, 2 type 150 houses. Although I was a year in Jepara, the city leave me a deep impression. The city itself is just a little city but it is the center of Indonesian wood handicraft, and it was known from long time ago.  The people is highly skilled when dealing wit

h wood, almost everything can be made of wood.

The project itself is to accomodate the housing for newly operated Coal Fired Electrical Power Plant Tanjung Jati B operators. With 2 x 600MW the power plant itself plays an important role for eletrical supplies in Java and Bali. 

I was so fortunate to have an experience to be involved with this huge project. And it gives me a broad view of experiences.
