Chapter Five : Jepara

In 2005-2006, I have got a job as an architectural inspector for a project. This time i have to be posted in Jepara, Central Java. The city of Ibu Kita Kartini. It was a housing project for PLTU Tanjung Jati B operators.

Located near Bandengan beach,  the housing consists of 15o type 54 houses, 17 type 90 houses, 9 type 120 houses, 2 type 150 houses. Although I was a year in Jepara, the city leave me a deep impression. The city itself is just a little city but it is the center of Indonesian wood handicraft, and it was known from long time ago.  The people is highly skilled when dealing wit
h wood, almost everything can be made of wood.

The project itself is to accomodate the housing for newly operated Coal Fired Electrical Power Plant Tanjung Jati B operators. With 2 x 600MW the power plant itself plays an important role for eletrical supplies in Java and Bali.

I was so fortunate to have an experience to be involved with this huge project. And it gives me a broad view of experiences.

Chapter Four : Ternate and North Mollucas

In 2005, i have a job in a construction company based in Jakarta, but I have to be posted in Ternate..the capital of North Mollucas. It is a historic city, and have been known as the city of spices.
Actually, my job was as an architect for any works that commenced in the province, designed new works. I've designed a prelim for Sultan Babullah Airport Terminal and some government works.

But, who suspected that I was only doing some fun and nothing to
do, hehehe. I was just strolled around, I ve been to Bacan Island, Halmahera Island.

The scenery was absolutely amazing, with deep blue sea and blue sky blended with the greenery of the island made you imagine that it was heaven. If you have Rp 1000,- in your hand right now you can see that in the back of the money there is a pictur
e of a fisherman with Tidore and Maitara island as the background. I have taken a picture there too, hehe.

After six months, i was bored to death and i decided to resign with the job, went to Jakarta, and say goodbye with the beautiful Ternate.

Third Chapter : Airmas asri

This was the third chapter in my professional experiences. Being accepted in the most prestigious and biggest architectural company in the country, definitely made me proud. You know that Airmas Asri is a big design company that designs most of the prestigious projects along the Sudirman road in Jakarta incl: The Capital Residence, Senayan Residence, Thamrin Executive Residence, Pakubuwono Residence, JACC revitalization, Senayan City, Sudirman Tower, Plaza Senayan, etc.

In this office, i have sense a tense in designing some building. With tight schedule and hundred of design paper works made me very busy. In eight months, I was only involved in one project : Senayan Residence. It's a pity though, but it was a precious moment that i have been in a big company.

Second Chapter : Jagat Baja Prima

After nearly 2 years i've been involved in design world, i've always wanted to know how was to build a building in reality. And the turn was with a construction company: PT Jagat Baja Prima Utama.

I've spent for almost a year in this company, and posted in East Java especially in Surabaya Malang corridor.  In this company my job was as a Site Engineer with description : project progress report, engineering advisory, material specification supervising, budgeting, aanwijzing, schedulling.

All the projects was  with PT HM Sampoerna Tbk in Surabaya, Malang, and Pandaan Site.

First Chapter: Arcadia

Mini Office BSD

After graduating from school in 2000, my first office was Arcadia (Arga Calista Disain), it was fun to have first job after u re went for school for 5 years. I think, this is my chance to prove my point as a freshman. But it was a mistake, i need more time for adaptation with the job. After all that was went well until 2002.

I've been involved with so many projects during my stay in Arcadia:
1. Global Park Kota Wisata
2.Fantasy Island Kota Wisata
3.Virginia Cluster Gate Kota Wisata
4.Maria's Residence Pondok Indah (design proposal)
5.CNI Regional Office Building (with Airmas Asri)
6.Harapan Indah Sport Club (with Airmas asri)
7.St. Maria Regina Church Competition Bintaro
8. Mini Office BSD.

Arcadia was a great office with friendly environment, two distinguish principals and had been established for nearly 16 years in architectural design. In 1994 their work "Condor" at Dunia Fantasy Ancol was achieved a nominee for IAI Award.

Cheap House

Do you want to have a house with low budget? Do you think that is impossible? Well, do not be pessimistic, here are some tips from Yu Sing, an architect and author of Mimpi Rumah Indah (dream of a beautiful house).

There are four characters for a house to be called Beautiful House :

  1. Energy savings, with natural cross ventilation and abundance natural lighting, using local and recycle materials, and easy to handle.

  2. Environment friendly, can be seen with green open space around the house and using local potential, such as adapting local traditional house.

  3. Interactivity between indoor and outdoor.

  4. Accordance with the philosophy and the characters of the owner.

To obtain the house with all the criteria, low budget is advised with using the methods of unfinished materials and exposed without neglecting natural image design.

Such as, instead of using marbles for your floor, it is wisely to use screed as it is more economical, and easy to maintain. Another option is not using any paint for your wall, just exposed.

Of course when you choose this methods the finishing work should be carried on carefully, and so that the results suits you.

Why do i choose to become an architect?

At first of my glimpse when i was at high school. Architecture was never entering my minds, i have an impression that architects just another drafter (as like almost indonesian people thoughts ). But i became interested because when people said what are you doing? you said that i m an architect, it was sound so cool. hehe.

You can read this:

Architects have been voted the sexiest male professionals in a survey of women’s ideal partners.

The survey, conducted by introduction agency Drawing Down the Moon, found that women favoured architects” due to the esteem associated with the profession.”

Architects are seen as being “balanced and rounded individuals who combined a creative approach with a caring, thoughtful disposition,” the survey found. It concluded: “ Their ability to cope with pressure of work in a relaxed manner was also deemed to be a significant plus.

Male architects beat stockbrokers, doctors, film directors, and teachers to the top spot. However, female members of the profession fared less well and did not feature in the top 10 of male preferences.

RIBA president David Rock commented that architects probably unaware of their own animal magnetism:” Architects are probably the only group on the list whose self-image is lower than their public image, “ Mind you, you have to question the veracity of any list include drama teachers.

RIBA Architecture Gallery director Alicia Pivaro, who is married to architect Paul Monaghan, said she thought male architects were highly attractive: Being married to architecture’s Mr. Sexy, I would have to agree.

But she was surprised at the failure of women architects to appear on the list. All the ones I know are very sexy, “ she said.

Men instead vote PR executives the sexiest profession for females, followed by actresses and journalists.

Who Are You

I am actually an architect, thats true, you know that i went for it for 5 years and earned a graduate in architecture from one of the best school in this country. Although that my works have not yet recognized from the people, i am grateful that i still do design for my office.

Recently, i worked for one the big 5 tobacco company in this country as a project architect. Designing new branch offices, supervising and drafting it, checking drawings for partners consultants, have been my scope of works for this 3 years lately.

And guess what that i maybe become: You will be a famous local architect, based from the quiz that i took in my Facebook : for your locals you re one of the tops, for designs you re match with others but not revolutionary, it will be so so. hehehe

I still do my best.
